Actress, writer will work with Fox 2000 on mystery series

There's no mystery around Angelina Jolie's next big project.

Jolie and Fox 2000 have teamed up to adapt Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta mystery novels, according to Variety.

Scarpetta is a medical examiner often called upon to solve homicides, and has appeared in 16 of Cornwell's novels. The deal, though, calls for Jolie to play the role in a plot not tied to any of those previously published works.

Jolie, 33, starred in 2008's fact-based mystery "Changeling."
