Priceless Gemma: New Bond Girl's an Unknown
Arterton and Olga Kurylenko will flirt with Daniel Craig in 'Bond 22'
Arterton will play a character named Fields, an MI6 agent, in the Marc Forster-directed film currently shooting with the vague working title of "Bond 22."
In addition to Daniel Craig, who returns for his second tour of 007 duty, the cast of "Bond 22" will feature returning favorites Judi Dench, Jeffrey Wright and Giancarlo Gianni, plus new addition Mathieu Amalric ("The Diving Bell and the Butterfly."
Also taking on Bond Girl duty is Olga Kurylenko, most recently seen in "Hitman."
Specifics on the "Bond 22" plot are scarce, but the film's producers offer a few hints in a statement.
"We are fortunate to continue in the Bond tradition of attracting the finest international actors for our starring roles," say Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. "Mathieu in the role of Dominic Greene, a leading member of the villainous organization introduced in 'Casino Royale,' will be a powerful counterpart to Daniel's portrayal of Bond. Olga Kurylenko will play the dangerously alluring Camille, who challenges Bond and helps him come to terms with the emotional consequences of Vesper's betrayal."
Kurylenko and Arterton's casting returns to the franchise's tradition of casting relative unknowns as Bond girls. More familiar faces, including Halle Berry and Denise Richards, had taken key roles in the later Pierce Brosnan entries, while international audiences certainly knew Eva Green, who became the Bond girl in "Casino Royale" after a number of A-listers circled the part but didn't commit.
A recent graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, Arterton has upcoming roles in Guy Ritchie's "RocknRolla" and the miniseries "Lost in Austen."
