Joins fellow Oscar nominees Downey, Howard and Paltrow

Jeff Bridges is the latest addition to the cast of Jon Favreau's Marvel adaptation "Iron Man."

Paramount is distributing the Marvel-produced feature.

Robert Downey Jr. stars as Tony Stark, wealthy industrialist, Vietnam vet, alcoholic and -- when he wears an elaborate suit -- Iron Man. Bridges will play another Stark Industries employee, an associate and mentor to Stark.

"There are many facets to this character which I can't discuss, but looking at the spectrum of all of Jeff's roles, this fits in nicely with the man who played 'Starman,' 'Tucker,' 'Big Lebowski,' with a little bit 'Tron' thrown in," Marvel's President of Production Kevin Feige tells The Hollywood Reporter. "This rounds out our ensemble, and I think it's one of the strongest casts ever assembled for one of our films."

Downey, Bridges and fellow co-star Terrence Howard all have Oscar nominations, while the film's female lead, Gwyneth Paltrow, has won an Oscar.

Paramount has already set a May 2, 2008 release date for "Iron Man," so production will rev up next month.

Bridges would have most recently been seen in "Tideland," but nobody actually saw "Tideland." Instead, he was probably last seen in "Stick It." His 2007 slate includes a vocal turn in "Surf's Up" and the human lead in "A Dog's Year."
