Singer's first starring role will be as... a singer

Need someone to play a singer? Call in a singer.

Christina Aguilera will play the lead role in Screen Gems' "Burlesque," according to Variety.

The plot follows your usual small-town-girl-makes-good formula, with Aguilera's character moving to the big city and toplining (after much drama, we're sure) at the titular venue. Shooting will begin later this year.

Though she's never held a movie's lead spot, Aguilera did have a voiceover cameo in 2004's "Shark Tale."
