Aussie surfing tale lures Crowe behind the camera

Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe will go behind the camera to make his feature directing debut on the Aussie surfing drama "Bra Boys."

The film will be produced by Crowe's frequent collaborator Brian Grazer as a Universal and Imagine Entertainment production.

According to Variety, Stuart Beattie ("Collateral") wrote the script, based on the documentary of the same name, which focused on brothers Sunny, Koby and Jai Abberton, pioneers of a Sydney-based underground surf movement. The name comes from the specific seaside suburb of Maroubra.

Sunny Abberton directed the "Bra Boys" documentary, with Crowe providing narration.

Crowe's previous work with Imagine includes "A Beautiful Mind" and "Cinderella Man," as well as the upcoming "American Gangster." The actor also has James Mangold's "3:10 to Yuma" coming up from Lionsgate.
