Paul Giamatti and Vince Vaughn will play North Pole siblings

Paul Giamatti knows when you are sleeping. He knows when you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good, so be good, for goodness sake.

Giamatti, a recent Oscar nominee for "Cinderella Man," is expected to co-star as St. Nick in an untitled holiday comedy from director David Dobkin ("Wedding Crashers").

According to Variety, the pic -- formerly titled "Fred Claus" -- will feature Vince Vaughn as Santa's black-sheep brother, whose return to the North Pole shakes things up. The film was written by Dan Fogelman from a story by Jessie Nelson, who will produce.

After missing out on Academy recognition for his acclaimed work in "Sideways" and "American Splendor," Giamatti was finally invited to the big show this year (though he lost to George Clooney). Upcoming credits for Giamatti include M. Night Shyamalan's "Lady in the Water" and vocal work in "The Ant Bully."
