Chace Crawford wants lead role in remake

Here's some gossip: A "Gossip Girl" star wants to replace Zac Efron in the new version of "Footloose."

Chace Crawford, who plays Nate on the CW's hit show, is rumored to be interested in the remake's lead role, according to E! Online's Marc Malkin.

Efron, star of the "High School Musical" films, dropped out of the role last week citing a desire to move on from teen-oriented song-and-dance projects.

Crawford, 23, has some big-screen experience: He co-starred in 2008's "The Haunting of Molly Hartley" and the 2006 occult thriller "The Covenant."
