Hounsou goes from protecting diamonds to tickling ivories

Djimon Hounsou, already attracting awards buzz for his upcoming turn in "Blood Diamond," has landed the lead role in the indie drama "The Trunk."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hounsou will play an aspiring concert pianist attempting to escape the ghetto and his clingy friends. The Sylvain White-directed project will co-star Brian White, Boris Kodjoe and Thomas Krestchmann.

Production on "The Trunk" will begin in Oakland in this winter.

Hounsou received an Oscar nomination for his work on "In America" and a Golden Globe nomination as the lead in "Amistad." His other film credits include "Gladiator" and "Constantine." He has "Blood Diamond" coming out this winter.
