Actress joins Verne Troyer in the Mike Myers comedy

Jessica Alba helped save the world as the Invisible Womanin the "Fantastic Four" films, but in her next role she just needs to save a hockey championship.

The actress will be the female lead opposite Mike Myers in Paramount Pictures' "The Love Guru," according to the trade papers.

The project stars Myers as Pitka, his first original character since Austin Powers, an American who was left at the gates of an ashram as a child and raised by gurus. When he returns to the U.S., his unorthodox ways and spirituality makes him popular with the self-help crowd, especially settling disagreements between couples.

Pitka's biggest challenge comes when the estranged wife of star hockey player Darren Roanoke (Malco) begins seeing the star player on a rival team, causing her husband's game to suffer. The team's owner Jane Bullard (Alba) and Coach Cherkov (Troyer) enlist Pitka's help to reunite the couple so that the team can concentrate on winning the championship.

Marco Schnabel will direct from a script by Myers and Graham Gordy. Production will begin in September in Toronto with an aim for a June 20, 2008 release.

Malco appeared in "Blades of Glory," while Troyer is best known for playing Mini-Me in the "Austin Powers" films.

Alba currently appears in the ensemble indie film "The Ten," an anthology of stories based on each of the Ten Commandments. She next stars opposite Dane Cook in the romantic comedy "Good Luck Chuck," due out in September.
