Adaptation will be live-action

Hanna-Barbera hero Jonny Quest will embark on his latest scientific escapade in Hollywood.

Warner Bros. will bring adapt the classic adventure cartoon "Jonny Quest" for the big screen in a live-action feature, report the trades.

The original cartoon revolved around the scientific adventures of the titular tow-headed hero, his adopted brother Hadji from Calcutta, scientist dad Dr. Benton Quest, their bodyguard Roger "Race" Bannon and their bulldog Bandit. The show was known for its more realistic depiction of violence and on-screen deaths.

"Quest" aired on ABC primetime for the 1964-'65 season only since its production values were costlier than the average animated series those days. It was subsequently spun off into a comic book for DC, made into a feature-length TV movie (which introduced Bannon's daughter Jessie) and revamped in the '80s/'90s with "The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest" on the Cartoon Network.

Dan Mazeau will pen the screenplay for the project, to be produced by Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter.
