Baby is expected in the spring

Keisha Castle-Hughes, the youngest actress to receive a best actress Oscar nomination for "Whale Rider" at 13, will soon be a mother.

The now 16-year-old star and her boyfriend Bradley Hull, 19, are expecting their first child in the spring, reports People. The couple has been together for three years.

Castle-Hughes is best known for playing the pre-teen Paikea in 2002's critically acclaimed "Whale Rider," set in the director Niki Caro's native New Zealand. Like her character, the Australian-born actress is part Maori.

She also made a cameo as the Queen of Naboo in 2005's "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith."

Her latest role is playing the Virgin Mary in New Line Cinema's upcoming "The Nativity Story" by director Catherine Hardwicke ("Thirteen," "Lords of Dogtown"). The film centers on Mary and Joseph's (Oscar Isaac) life before and through the birth of Christ. Oscar nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo will play Mary's cousin Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. The film will be released in December.
