Rolling Stones guitarist likely to appear in series' third film

The chances of Rolling Stones icon Keith Richards guest starring in the third "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie may be better than ever.

Speaking to reporters the day after the London premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," star Johnny Depp sounded darned optimistic that Richards would be appearing as the father of his Jack Sparrow character.

"We're all looking forward to the idea of Keith coming in and doing a cameo, and it's looking very, very good," Depp told the press.

Of course, Richards -- a hard-living 62 -- had to take a break from touring after falling out of a palm tree in Fiji (or off a water scooter, depending on which story you believe), so he may not be the most reliable of gents. Depp says as much.

"The one thing is you just never say it's definite until, for me, the guy steps on the set and the cameras are rolling, but it's certainly something I'd be excited about," Depp noted.

Depp earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in the first "Pirates" film, admitting that Richards was one of the inspirations for his flamboyant character.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" earned $654 million worldwide. The eagerly anticipated sequel will be released this Friday (July 7).
