Either Kidman or Fiennes Is 'The Reader'
Stephen Daldry will direct with Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack producing
According to the industry trade papers, the intense Oscar-winning actress and the intense Oscar nominated actor will appear in "The Reader," a Weinstein Co. adaptation that reteams Kidman with her "Hours" director Stephen Daldry.
"The Reader" is based on the best-seller by Bernhard Schlink and tells the story of a man's lengthy and obsessive affair with an older woman who he discovers may be involved with Nazi war crimes.
David Hare, an Oscar nominee for "The Hours," is adapting "The Reader" for producers Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack who, as directors, helmed Kidman's work in "Cold Mountain" and "The Interpreter" respectively.
Shooting on the film will begin in Germany in September.
Kidman is currently appearing on the big screen in "The Invasion," with "Margot at the Wedding" and "The Golden Compass" on tap for later this year.
Fiennes, an Oscar nominee for "Schindler's List" and "The English Patient" (also directed by Minghella), reprised his role as Dark Lord Voldemort in this summer's "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."
