'G.I. Joe' Adds a Wayans Brother
Joseph Gordon-Levitt also in talks to join the toy adaptation
We could make you guess, but instead we'll just reveal that Marlon Wayans will play Ripcord in the Stephen Sommers' adaptation of the popular Hasbro toy line.
The formerly patriotic and America-centric fighting force at the story's core has become G.I.J.O.E. or Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity in Stuart Beattie's script. It's now an international organization of operatives out to fight a terrorist organization called Cobra.
Previously announced casting has included Ray Park as Snake Eyes, Sienna Miller as Baroness, Rachel Nichols as Scarlett, Adwale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Heavy Duty and Said Taghmaoui as Breaker.
"G.I. Joe" will open on Aug. 7, 2009.
In addition to the Wayans casting, Variety adds that "Brick" and "The Lookout" star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in negotiations to join the cast.
While Wayans is best known for low-brow comedies including "Little Man" and "Scary Movie," he earned acclaim for stretching his dramatic muscles in a disturbing 2000 drug-addled classic. We're referring, of course, to "Dungeons & Dragons" (or possibly "Requiem for a Dream").
