Eva Mendes joins Scarlett Johansson, Gabriel Macht and Samuel L. Jackson

Eva Mendes has become the second actress in a week attached to a femme fatale role in the heavily possessionary Frank Miller's "Will Eisner's The Spirit."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mendes will play "Sand Saref, a beauty with dangerous curves."

It wasn't so long ago that Scarlett Johansson was added to the cast as Silk N. Floss, another beauty with dangerous curves.

Gabriel Macht is set to play the lead role, a detective-turned-vigilante who butts heads with evil crimelord Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson).

The character of Sand Saref has a past with costumed hero, a past that includes both romance and tragedy.

Production on "The Spirit" will begin in October in New Mexico with Miller ("Sin City") directing from his own adaptation of the classic Eisner comic.

Best known for her love interest turns in "Hitch" and "Ghost Rider," Mendes will be seen this fall in "We Own the Night." She's currently working on the long-gestating ensemble remake of "The Women."
