Spy sequel has a May 2008 release date

It's back to the drawing board for the 22nd James Bond film, as talks with intended director Roger Michell have reportedly broken down.

According to the good people at Variety, the "Changing Lanes" director was, indeed, in talks with the franchise's protectors/producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, but negotiations fell apart due to -- go figure -- "creative differences.

"Bond 22" would have reunited Michell with his "Enduring Love" and "The Mother" star Daniel Craig, who will be making his second go as 007 following his debut this fall in Martin Campbell's "Casino Royale."

Michell is probably best known to worldwide audiences for his work on "Notting Hill," a romantic comedy hit that starred Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.

Sony has already set a May 2, 2008 release date for "Bond 22," so if Michell's creative differences can't be smoothed out, producers are likely to put feelers out to alternative directors in the near future.
