Tykwer will direct, with John Woo executive producing

Clive Owen will star in "The International," a crime thriller set up at Columbia Pictures.

According to the industry trade papers, Eric Singer's script focuses on an obsessive Interpol agent (is there any other kind?) entrusted with investigating improprieties at the world's most powerful banks. Naturally he gets mixed up in corruption and even murder.

"The International" will begin production this fall with Tom Tykwer ("Run Lola Run") at the helm. The list of producers include Charles Roven and Richard Suckle of Mosaic Media, with Lloyd Phillips, John Woo, Terence Chang and Jeff Lurie executive producing.

Owen was most recently seen in the critically acclaimed "Children of Men" and "Inside Man." An Oscar nominee for "Closer," Owen will be seen in "Shoot 'Em Up" and "The Golden Age" later this year.
