Eddie Murphy will star in the update on 'The Incredible Shrinking Man'

Brett Ratner is negotiating to direct "The Incredible Shrinking Man" for Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment.

Eddie Murphy has long been attached to the updated take on the 1957 sci-fi favorite.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ratner is just the latest in a long line of helmers attached to the comedy project, following Pete Segal and Keenen Ivory Wayans.

The latest version of the script, drafted by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, focuses on a Las Vegas magician who falls victim to a spell and begins to shrink. Incredible! Exactly.

Ratner's most recent directing efforts were the third chapters in the "Rush Hour" and "X-Men" franchises. He's directing one piece of the anthology "New York, I Love You" and he recently helmed the NBC pilot "Blue Blood." He's been attached to direct the Hugh Hefner biopic "Playboy."
