'Nerds' Must Seek Revenge Elsewhere
After Emory balks, Fox Atomic bails
According to a variety of media reports, 20th Century Fox's fledgling Fox Atomic banner has shuttered "Revenge of the Nerds" only two weeks into production after a key collegiate location fell through.
Although the "Nerds" remake was budgeted at a darned-near-frugal $12.5, production couldn't recover after Atlanta-based Emory University opted not to allow for shooting. Various press sources have claimed that Emory was either uncomfortable with the film's subject matter, or with the disruption to normal campus activities. Regardless, the film made a brief attempt to move to Agnes Scott College, which proved unsatisfactory.
"Revenge of the Nerds," loosely based on the 1984 hit comedy, was set to be directed by Kyle Newman ("Fanboys") and produced by Adam Brody and McG among others.
The film's cast -- now free to go off and make other great movies -- included Jenna Dewan, Katie Cassidy, Chris Marquette, Ryan Pinkston and Efren Ramirez.
