A truly dedicated cop won't let death stand in the way of law enforcement

LOS ANGELES -- Talk about working overtime. A project about cops who fight crime even after their own deaths has just been resurrected.

"Wedding Crashers" director David Dobkin has commandeered "RIPD," a film in development based on a 1999 Dark Horse comic book by Peter M. Lenkov, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project centers on a cop who's been murdered and discovers he can still serve post mortem in the Rest in Peace Department. Their job is to patrol the dead beat -- taking on dead criminals whose penchant for mayhem is still alive and kicking. While performing his new duties, our hero searches for the man responsible for his untimely death.

This project has had its development arrested for quite a while at Universal before Dobkin brought a new perspective. "Aeon Flux" scribes Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi will adapt the comic book. Lenkov will executive produce the film, while Universal's Neal H. Moritz and Dark Horse's Mike Richardson will produce.

Dobkin's previous credits include "Shanghai Knights" and "Clay Pigeons."
