According to the industry trade papers, Ronan will join Oscar winner Rachel Weisz and Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling in the DreamWorks film, which is based on the bestselling novel by Alice Sebold.
Ronan will play Susie Salmon, a murdered young girl who looks down on her family and her killer from heaven.
Jackson adapted the project with his "Lord of the Rings" collaborators Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh.
Production on "The Lovely Bones" will begin in October, shooting between Pennsylvania and Jackson's native New Zealand.
Although American audiences won't currently recognize Ronan, they're about to be seen a lot of her. Although Irish audiences know her from the TV shows "Proof" and "The Clinic," she has a number of high profile features coming up including "Death Defying Acts," "I Could Never Be Your Woman" and the Oscar hopeful "Atonement" with Keira Knightley and James McAvoy. Before shooting "Lovely Bones," she'll star in "City of Ember" opposite Bill Murray.
