Loney Island team brings act to big screen for Paramount

There may be fewer lazy Sundays in Andy Samberg's future if the "Saturday Night Live" star continues his push onto the big screen.

Samberg is expected to star in "Hot Rod," a comedy set up at Paramount.

The film will be a showcase for the so-called Lonely Island comedy team, which includes Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer. Taccone is co-starring in the Pam Brady-scripted vehicle and Schaffer will make his feature directing debut on the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Samberg will play an accident-prone daredevil who plans to jump Snake River in a moped to impress his stepfather.

Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn will produce the comedy, set to begin production in July.

Samberg went from under-the-radar "SNL" performer to an Internet sensation with "Lazy Sunday," a filmed rap about two friends enjoying cupcakes and attending a matinee of "The Chronicles of Narnia." Schaffer directed the clip and Taccone was musical director.
