Martin Scorsese Rocks Beatle Documentary
George Harrison doc would aim for a theatrical release
According to Variety, recent Oscar winner Scorsese will direct a documentary focusing on the late George Harrison. Produced by Scorsese's Sikelia Prods. and Nigel Sinclair's Spitfire Pictures.
Harrison's widow, Olivia, will also produce through her Grove Street Prods. The Harrison family has contributed extensive archival footage, but Scorsese is expected to begin a new round of interviews later this year. The plan is for the Harrison pic to be a theatrical release.
In addition to his time with the Beatles, Harrison had a successful solo career and served as producer on a number of films including the ultra-controversial "Life of Brian." He died of lung cancer in 2001 at the age of 58.
Since finally capturing that elusive Academy Award for "The Departed" earlier this year, Scorsese has hardly settled down, circling at least a half-dozen potential directing follow-ups.
Scorsese's musical documentary resume includes "Shine a Light," "No Direction Home: Bob Dylan" and "The Last Waltz."
