D.J. Caruso is directing the DreamWorks production, reuniting with his "Disturbia" star. Other actors in the cast include Michelle Monaghan and Rosario Dawson.
The project, most recently drafted by Hillary Seitz, revolves around a single mom (Monaghan) and a young man (LaBeouf) who are framed as terrorists and become part of a cell planning to carry out a high profile assassination.
According to the industry trade papers, Thornton will play a government official leading the team attempting to track down the alleged terrorists.
The always prolific Thornton was most recently seen in "Mr. Woodcock," "The Astronaut Farmer" and "School for Scoundrels." He'll transition into "Eagle Eye" after finishing work on "The Informers."
