Jaime King and Paz Vega join Frank Miller-directed feature

Add Paz Vega and Jaime King to the ever-growing cast of "Will Eisner's The Spirit."

The Lionsgate production is written and directed by comic book icon Frank Miller, who will make his solo directing debut tackling one of the most respected properties in the comic world.

Gabriel Macht is playing the lead, the mysterious vigilante once known as Denny Colt, who battles evildoers in a dapper suit and a jaunty fedora. His main adversary is the equally obscure Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson).

The supporting cast includes dueling femmes fatale Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes as Silk N. Floss and Sand Saref, respectively, plus Sarah Paulson as The Spirit's true love, Ellen Dolan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vega will play Plaster of Paris, while King will be Lorelei.

Production on "The Spirit" is set to begin this week in New Mexico, with a Jan. 16, 2009 release date in the cards.

King previously worked with Miller on "Sin City," based on his graphic novel. Her most recent credits include small screen turns on "The Class" and "Kitchen Confidential."

Vega has a breakout of sorts with 2004's "Spanglish," though his follow-up roles have included the less-than-successful "10 Items or Less" and "Fade to Black."
