Easy As '1, 2, 3' for Denzel Washington
'Pelham' remake would reteam Denzel Washington with Tony Scott
The project will reteam Washington with frequent collaborator Tony Scott, set to direct the David Koepp adaptation of John Godey's novel.
The story is most familiar from Joseph Sargent's 1974, which focused on a group of four hijackers -- named only for colors -- who take a subway car (and its passengers) hostage, demanding a million dollars in return.
Washington will play the transit cop trying to disarm the situation, a role played by Walter Matthau in the original movie.
According to Variety, the film could begin production by the first quarter of 2008.
Washington likes working with the Scott brothers. He was most recently seen in "Deja Vu," from Tony Scott, who also directed him in "Crimson Tide" and "Man on Fire." His next film is "American Gangster," from Ridley Scott.
