Not ready for her close-up

Dolly Parton performed “9 to 5” during the exuberant opening number, but she appeared again inexplicably later in the broadcast when she lost out for the Tony in the music and lyrics category. As winners Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, came on stage, the camera cut to Parton, who was standing backstage. She waved awkwardly at the camera, then turned to leave.
