Tiger Woods
After several months of silence following his Thanksgiving-night car accident and the flood of sordid revelations about his personal life it unleashed, Tiger Woods made his first public statement on Feb. 19, 2010, saying he was "deeply sorry" to his family, friends, sponsors and everyone who had held him up as a role model.
Woods controlled the environment for his statement, filling the room with family members and close associates and not taking any questions after he finished speaking. He also urged the media to leave his wife, Elin Nordegren, and children alone, and pledged to be "a better person" going forward. Time will tell.
