Halftime show, 2001
Super Bowl XXXV -- 2001
The Team: Aerosmith, Britney Spears, ‘N Sync, Mary J. Blge, Nelly
The Playbook: Adults? Aerosmith. Kids? ‘N Snyc. Women? Mary J. Blige. Everyone else? Britney Spears in tight clothes, or as Jon Stewart said, “dressed like a football player who’d been ejected from the league and forced into prostitution.” First, ‘N Sync took the field chased by fans, but it didn’t take long before everyone was on stage for a sing-along to Aereosmith’s “Walk This Way.” The 2001 show-stopper: A dance-off between Steven Tyler and Justin Timberlake.
The Result: onside kick, covered by the kicking team, followed by a fumble, recovered by the defense, returned for a touchdown. Just a sloppy play, but one you can’t take your eyes off of.
