The box-office bombs of 2009: Zap2it's Year In Review
We can't all be winners. During a year when "Twilight: New Moon" gobbled up $267 million (and counting!), plenty of big-screen attempts fell short. Sometimes an indie comedy tried (and failed) to crack wide-release audiences. Sometimes high-profile talent and writing couldn't redeem your typical horror flick. And sometimes, not even vampires could save the movie.
So who fell to the bottom of the heap? First, it's no fun picking on the little guy, so we limited our list to wide releases of 1,700 or more screens nationwide. Second, we stuck with domestic receipts: We just couldn't trust the sorts of countries that love Jerry Lewis to influence these rankings. And third, all movies opened within the 2009 calendar year.
We also gave a pass to new releases: "Invictus" and "Everybody's Fine" aren't exactly burning up the charts, but they and other could-be failures only just opened.
So which film failed its way to the bottom? Count down with us the 20 box-office bombs of 2009.
