'Lost': What does the Island have in store for everyone?

With just one season left for "Lost," this fifth year has gone from asking "What the heck was that smokey thing?" to, not so simply, "Why?" Why would the Oceanic Six return to the island? Why would Sawyer work so hard to stay? Why are Rose and Bernard there? And why is Ben manipulating them all? We thought we'd investigate each character's possible purpose on the Island.
