Oct. 9: President Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize
Perhaps nobody was more surprised than President Barack Obama when it was announced he'd won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. The timing means he would have had to have been nominated less than two weeks after taking office, hardly enough time for change we can believe in. The rather abrupt decision makes Obama just the fourth U.S. president to win the honor.
