The Decemberists
Thanks to the Internet -- or maybe just Colin Meloy's cleverly genteel lyrics -- the Decemberists confirmed that in this new digital world, you don't even need to have CD out to have a Top 20 record. This March, the band's latest album, "The Hazards of Love," was digitally released almost exclusively through iTunes for a week. About 18,000 downloads later (plus 1,000 copies sold on vinyl), "The Hazards of Love" debuted at No. 14 on the album charts, days before the CD was finally available in stores on March 24.--HIT
