Tune-Yards, "Whokill" (4AD)

Merrill Garbus strums ukulele, pounds drums and writes songs that sound as if they're being whipped up in the moment. Her voice is a thrillingly uninhibited instrument, and it rides waves of percussion to ecstatic highs that suggest Afro-pop and dance music as much as indie-rock.
