Mr. Colbert goes to Washington
Stephen Colbert brought his pompous pundit character to a hearing of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Security discussing the plight of migrant workers. Although Colbert was invited to testify by committee chairwoman Zoe Lofgren, and he was describing his experience toiling alongside migrant workers as part of the United Farm Workers' "Take Our Jobs" program, some members of the committee were not amused. Michigan Representative John Conyers Jr. asked Colbert to forfeit his time and leave the hearing, fearing having an entertainer testify minimized the seriousness of the hearing. Tell that to Elmo, who testified before Congress in 1996.
