On August 10, radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger shocked listeners by using the N-word 11 times in a single conversation with a black female caller. Schlessinger said she was trying to make a philosophical point, but the point was apparently lost. She announced on August 17 that she would retire from radio because she wanted "to regain my First Amendment rights."
