Conan O'Brien swaps NBC for TBS

After a tumultuous confrontation with NBC, O'Brien officially exited the network on January 21 and Jay Leno re-assumed the "Tonight Show" desk. O'Brien was contractually obligated to say off the airwaves until August, so he started the "Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour," which lasted two months and sold out in almost every city. On April 12, O'Brien announced that he would be hosting his new show, "Conan," on TBS.
