Movies served to us in small pieces

What we were expecting: It's hard to expect much these days from a Hollywood movie business dedicated to the ideas of sequels and reboots. Still, there are only so many times we'll pay to sit through a film, right?

What we got instead: Once "Harry Potter" proved that you could split a single story into two separate movies, we were doomed. This year, we had to accept ridiculousness like "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2," a three-part adaptation of "The Hobbit" (a single, relatively short book), and the news that the third "Hunger Games" story, "Mockingjay" would inexplicably be a two-parter.
