It was a little baffling why Missy Franklin barely qualified for the 200m Free finals after what looked like a slow semifinals on Monday (July 30). Until she walked out on the pool deck less than 20 minutes later to swim in the 100m Backstroke finals.
Keeping some gas in the tank paid off, as Franklin won her first individual gold medal and set a new American record. She is still on pace to medal in seven Olympic events, something no female U.S. swimmer has ever done.
