'Argo,' 'Jaws,' 'The Terminal,' and more movies you won't believe were based on true stories

This original summer blockbuster from Steven Spielberg is based on Peter Benchley's novel of the same name -- and that was inspired by a real series of shark attacks off the Jersey Shore in 1916. After the first death, officials in the shore towns told people there was nothing to worry about -- then three more people died and one more was injured. But no one in the real-life case said "You're going to need a bigger boat."
