Aired on: NBC, spring-summer 2009
NBC's fortunes were in the tank at this point -- none of the first-year dramas the network aired in 2008-09 returned the following season (although "Southland" eventually found a second life on TNT). Among the more unfortunate casualties was "Kings," a retelling of the biblical story of David. A richly realized setting and a handful of very strong performances, particularly by Ian McShane as King Silas, weren't enough to make the show sustainable, though, as it lasted only a few weeks before getting to complete its run as a summer burnoff.
