"House"-hold name: Amy Irving as Alice.

"House"-lights: Alice is the author of a young adult series of detective books, which House is a fan of. When she tries to kill herself, House figures out her unstable psychological state is from a mass on her spine, left over from a car accident that killed her son. She doesn't want to go on living because she let him drive that night when she shouldn't have. So House lies to her with a fake X-ray that "says" her son had a brain aneurysm and there was nothing she could have done. He considers taking it back when she says she won't change the ending to her series, but the sight of his new girlfriend Cuddy stops him.
