Monstrous evolution: Vampires, werewolves, witches and zombies on film and on TV

The Whedonverse introduced us to the concept of vampires with a soul -- fiends who remembered all the horrific things they did and felt remorse. It certainly gave a new twist to the creatures of the night and also jump-started the vampire-as-love-interest intrigue.
