Many film fans point to Garland's performance in 1955's "A Star is Born" as the work that should have brought her an Oscar (she never did win a competitive Academy Award). But at least she was nominated for that. Her iconic turn as Dorothy Gale in "The Wizard of Oz" was foolishly overlooked for Best Actress. At the age of 17, Garland was instead presented with a special "Juvenile Award," which was designed to recognize youth performances.
