Early critical reaction to The CW's remake of the 1980s series that starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman has not been very kind. The chief objection has to do with the fact that Jay Ryan's Beast is not especially beastly -- he's just a handsome guy with a scar on his cheek. The show's producers say the show is about the "beast within" Ryan's character. Will audiences buy that? We'll see.
