Fans of the time-tripping cop show -- in which a present-day detective is mysteriously transported to the 1970s -- thought the producers of the 2008-09 series were doing a fine job with their adaptation. At least they did until a bewildering, all-too-literal finale that negated nearly all of the episodes that preceded it.
