The karaoke experience is all about seeing amateurs insert themselves into real songs. (That and booze. Lots and lots of booze.) No matter how good those amateurs are, you're not going to confuse them with the real singer. So having amateurs sing with actual music stars? It just makes the karaoke nature of the show that much more obvious.
