'The Vampire Diaries' Death Toll: Characters we've loved and lost

Dana (Anna Enger)

Why we loved her: First of all, the "not now, Dana!" moment, when she interrupted a crucial Matt/Caroline scene, will be forever remembered. We are not even exaggerating when we say that a loyal "Vampire Diaries" fan sent us an embroidered pillowcase last season that reads "NOT NOW DANA." Dana was brought back to antagonize Elena at the '60s dance, and then to be a pawn in Klaus's game.

Why we lost her: Klaus compelled Stefan to chow down on Dana and her BFF Chad. Seriously... how much blood has been spilled at Mystic Falls High? They need some serious forensics investigators to get in there. Surely, the loss of Dana will cripple Mystic Falls for weeks. Months, perhaps. We hope Damon has prepared an adequate eulogy.
