'The Vampire Diaries' Death Toll: Characters we've loved and lost

We loved her because: Undoubtedly the most beloved character on our list, Jenna was just a college student trying to graduate and occasionally get a little stoned when her big sister died, leaving her with two surly teenagers to raise all by her lonesome. Jenna, ever clueless, had a bad habit of inviting the wrong people into the Gilbert house and "walking into knives," but we adored her awkward moments (chunky monkey, anyone?) and tequila-fueled poor decisions.

We lost her because: We only got to see one episode of Jenna as a vampire after Klaus turned her for his blood sacrifice, but it was thrilling to watch. After a season of dreadful build-up, we knew we were going to lose someone we adored when Klaus arrived in Mystic Falls, but we didn't expect to say goodbye to Jenna before she even finished her dissertation. At least she got a beautiful funeral scene, right? Yeah, we know. That doesn't make it better.
