We loved him because: He was super hot, had a sarcastic disposition, and was clearly loving modern technology after being locked up in a coffin for several centuries.

We lost him because: Elena and Jeremy decided to kill him in order to grow Jeremy's mark and get the map to the cure. It wasn't easy, but much to Klaus's dismay, they did take him down.
